Mindful Stitching, Sashiko Style 2

This next-level stitching class builds on the foundational skills acquired in the “Summer Stitching, Sashiko Style” workshop. In this beyond-the-basics class, you'll delve deeper into the stitching, sashiko style and other forms of hand stitching - exploring more intricate patterns, weaving techniques, and creative techniques that transform mending into art.
Workshop Highlights
Advanced Patterns & Variations: Explore sashiko beyond simple running stitch motifs. Discover styles like kogin, where with thread layers, weaving patterns emerge from precise, grid-based single stitches.
Creative Customization & Design:?Learn to personalize your sashiko with non-traditional color combinations, integrate patchwork elements, or add embellishments into your visible mending projects. Adapt classic sashiko patterns into your unique voice.
Layering & Composition:?Practice layering sashiko over fabric and previous stitches; integrating boro-inspired patchwork for texture and depth. Explore options for reinforcing garment wear zones with both structure and style.
Mindful Stitching & Flow: Deepen your connection to the rhythmic, meditative process of stitching. Focus on stitch pacing, mindful transitions, and color and placement choices for both visual harmony and mending.
Functional Applications: Explore options to add decorative stitching to existing garments, objects and soft goods found in your home (ie book covers, pin cushions, scarves, pillows).
Mentored Stitching Session:?Enjoy guided, hands-on time one-on-one feedback within the comfort of community.
Experience Level: Completion of “Summer Stitching, Sashiko Style” or equivalent stitching basics (running stitch, traditional patterns, mindfulness through stitch practice). Ideal for quilters, sewists, makers, and menders who have hand stitching basics down and are eager to push creative boundaries.
Materials & Preparation: Workshop will have on hand Sashiko threads, needles, and practice fabric.
