Introduction to Paper Piecing: Make Your Own Holiday Cards:

Has paper piecing seemed too complicated or too much work? This class will teach you how to paper piece in a way that is easy, quick, precise, and fun as you make fabric greeting cards. It is a great technique for using scraps and small pieces of fabric that you have been saving.

This paper piecing technique is simple. You will not have to tear off the paper when you are done sewing.

The instructor will supply the cards and matching envelopes (photo frame cards sold by Strathmore), several paper piecing patterns that you can re-use, the vellum foundation papers used for each card you will make and a "purple thang" for inserting the cards into the frames. Please bring $5.00 for these supplies. This supply fee will be collected during class.

The patterns feature themes for upcoming holidays (e.g., Christmas and Hanukkah as well as other holidays and a birthday theme). There are approximately 50 patterns to choose from.

By the end of class, you will have 2-3 cards completed and you will have learned how to construct any quilt block pattern that uses foundation piecing. (Note: the patterns you will be given in this class can be enlarged and used in different combinations to make a table runner, or wall hanging in future projects.)

Once you learn how to paper piece, you may want to do a lot more of it!

Instructor: Tekoa King
Instructor Bio: Tekoa King is a nurse-midwife who has been quilting since her grandmother taught her to sew. During her career at UCSF, she taught medical students and nursing students obstetrics. For years, she pieced quilts for family members and her grandmother and aunt hand-quilted them. Now retired, she continues to learn new quilting techniques and looks forward to sharing what she has learned through teaching.
